Deviation from South
In some of the inspected plants, the PV modules were installed parallel to the facades despite the building’s strong deviation towards South-East or South-West. Thus, when aligned with the building, the PV modules’ orientation is significantly deviated from the optimum. Even though the amount of installed modules can be increased following this approach, this may not outweigh the lower irradiation reaching the module surface. Studies should have been conducted during the design phase to verify whether this is the case or not. PI Berlin’s calculations showed that in some cases the systems’ performance could have been higher if they were installed facing directly South.
